 I don't happen to be in the most picturesque location to view it but this is known as the Belt of Venus. The pink band across the sky is a bit of the atmosphere which is being lit up by sunlight which has passed through so much of the atmosphere already that it has become coloured. The dark band below it is the part of the atmosphere which is no longer receiving direct sunlight at all so that dark band is actually the shadow which the Earth casts on its own atmosphere.
