 According to an information board, this used to be the town of Pemberton, "the commercial and social centre of this district". The town was founded in 1885 and lasted until 1924. I'm used to the idea that pre-Roman or occasionally even Medieval towns might have disappeared but there could well be people still alive who lived in this one.
