These buildings are the village of Skálafell, Cabin Mountain. The middle group is cabins accommodation where I will be staying tonight. On the right is a monument to Jon Eiriksson, who came from this village and became chief librarian of the Royal Library in Copenhagen in the 18th Century. The monument is actually unfinished. There is meant to be another larger but no more comprehensible part behind it.

I was just thinking yesterday about how one of the lovely things about riding in Iceland is that there are no dogs here. As I pulled into the farmyard, I saw one but it was a very calm creature which just watched me from a distance. I learned from the information pack in my room that she is named Hekla, after the volcano, and her father was once voted the best looking dog in Iceland. For all I know, that might just mean he was the better looking out of the two of them.
