Ever since deciding to come to Iceland, I had been wondering which way it would be best to go at this point. I thought it would be a choice between 74 km on a major road and 21 km on a gravel track. In fact, it turns out that they are both gravel roads of similar quality and the only vehicles I saw as I worked my way up the valley were two ordinary cars, both using the shorter route. The decision has suddenly become quite easy.
