Iceland's parliament, the Althing, met here every Summer from 930 to 1798, although its importance started to wane after Norway took control of Iceland in 1273. This is the Law Rock. Anybody was allowed a chance to stand on this rock to address the chiefs who voted in the parliament, and other members of the public, who gathered in the valley below. The Law Speaker would recite all the laws of Iceland from the here.
