Oswiecim. I had to stop here to get some money. My plan had been to change my left over Euros and Czech money in Krakow tomorrow but I've now realised that I need some zloty today for replenishing my drinks. I stopped by an information board near the station. The map key had a symbol for a bank and that symbol didn't appear anywhere on the map. I wasn't sure if that was its way of saying that there wasn't one. Then when I tried to cross the river, I found that bikes were banned from the main bridge and was diverted down a small road which had a sign saying that it led to a bureau de change. That was closed. Once over a smaller bridge, I spotted a building with a sign above the door saying that there was a cash machine inside. Indoor cash machines aren't uncommon and people do wheel their bikes in to use them but when I went in, I discovered that the machine wasn't on the ground floor so I gave up on that one. Eventually, I found one here in the main square.

This town wasn't even on my intended route. The name of Oswiecim wasn't familiar to me and somehow, the information board at the station didn't seem to give any clues but I would later discover that while looking at that board, I had been within a mile of the entrance to Auschwitz.
