 The Elbe, looking rather full. It's flowing quite fast too. In the middle is one of the many small ferries which operate across the river.Some can carry a few cars but this one is just for pedestrians and bikes. The river Elbe has caused problems for me before. In 2003, I remember having difficulty finding a way across it at Hamburg, near its mouth. My 2006 trip was the closest I have come to reaching my intended destination for a cycling trip without cheating but even then I ended up taking a ferry across the Elbe near Magdeburg. This year, I don't have any specific plans for the trip and I'm not too bothered about getting help. After all, I took two taxis in Hagen and I used several escalators in Leipzig yesterday. I still want to see if I can get away without using these boats though.
