This view kept my spirits up while I mended another broken spoke. I was dismayed to break one only 58 km into a ride of about 200 km. Most of my spoke breakages have happened in the afternoon.

Yesterday, with my new spoke spanner, I managed to get the wheel into what looked like its best shape since Switzerland. It was as flat and as round as you could hope for and all the spokes seemed to have pretty much the same tension. That obviously didn't do any good. After this repair, the wheel would have a visible wobble but it wouldn't break again all day. Perhaps it's happier not being completely flat. It had a slight wobble for the 11 days when it didn't break.

Worryingly, I've just found that two of my spare spokes look like they are too short. I don't know where they came from. I might be able to find a way to use them but if not, I've only got one spare. I don't know if that will be enough to get me to Istanbul.
