My bike sporting its new lock, parked upside-down to prevent it falling onto the cars. The hotel later let me move it to a sheltered place behind the hotel but I didn't ask until the bike had already got rather wet.

This region keeps reminding me of Romania and I'm staying at the Best Western tonight because I remember how helpful the staff at the Best Western in Timisoara were at booking me a room for the following night in the little town where I wanted to go. Tomorrow, I want to go to Pirot, which will be the first overnight stop on this trip which doesn't have any hotels which can be booked on-line. They very willingly found and booked a hotel for me. Unfortunately, when I asked where it was, they said it was 12 km from Pirot, they didn't know in which direction and neither of them had any idea how to get there. It seems pretty much impossible to find a map in Serbia so they phoned the Pirot hotel to ask for directions. The best advice they could give was to go to Pirot, turn right by the rubber manufacturer and then try to find some children to ask because they would be the most likely people to speak English. I'm glad Pirot isn't far away because I think finding the hotel could take some time. It's pretty hilly around there and I just hope that 12 km detour isn't up a mountain.
