This wasn't how this was supposed to happen. Apart from doing a lot of cycling, I had also had the intention of seeing how far I could get by land, which would involve crossing the Channel by means of the Tunnel. I know from experience that you aren't allowed to just ride a bike onto the shuttle trains so I had arranged for somebody to bring a car here and get me onto the train in that. Unfortunately, he forgot his passport, which rather scuppered that idea. I have heard that the tunnel operators can supposedly provide a van, trailer and driver to take a bike onto the train. I've no idea how much that costs but I do know that you can't even enquire about it on a bank holiday.

Instead, here I am on the Pride of Canterbury. I'm not really all that happy about it, although I had to put on a bit of a smile here because some bloke was taking the photograph, after my attempt to use the camera's timer merely resulted in the camera falling off a high ledge and spewing its batteries all over the deck.
