It turns out that 'Target', two doors away from my hotel, is a hypermarket. I found everything I needed and, in the process, saw a lot of things I didn't need. These radios interested me. There are some very modern-looking designs on the middle shelf there but they're all analogue. It doesn't look like digital radio has caught on here. Lucky I didn't bother bringing mine with me.

I considered getting a satellite radio receiver, as the medium is quite popular here, but the idea quickly started to look like a complete non-starter, partly because it seems you somehow need to pay some kind of monthly subscription in order to keep it working but mainly because it appeared that the only portable units had the antenna built into a massive pair of headphones, which I thought would make them somewhat incompatible with wearing a cycle helmet.
