The prevailing wind around here is from the south, as borne out by the tree under which Bikey will be spending the night. There's another drive through bank on the right. Now I'm off to see if any of these large buildings is a supermarket.

I was amazed how early I reached Hutchinson. I got up earlier than on most previous days because the information pack in the Eureka hotel advertised two restaurants which said they started serving breakfast at 5:30. In fact, one was closed for refurbishment and the other gave no excuse but was resolutely shut both yesterday afternoon and this morning. The combination of the early start to today and the unexpected speed meant that I had arrived in Hutchinson, had a shower, made some phone calls, done some other messing about and was back out again while the sun was still blindingly bright.

The phone book in my room gave a website for the bike shop, which showed that it stayed open for a good hour after I got here. I'm not sure I really need to go though. The tyre seems okay and the nasty clicking which had been coming from my pedal for a couple of days has stopped now that I've put some oil on it. I think I might wait and get another good service just before entering the mountains. If it's anything like the last service, it will take more than an hour anyway. I enjoyed getting a good early start this morning and would like to repeat it so I probably won't still be here when the bike shop re-opens.
