Barges of coal on the Monongahela. Some of the information boards along the rail trail said that the Youghiogheny valley was a big mining centre and the coal was transported down the river to the steel mills in Pittsburgh. I heard some explosions along the valley, which were probably mining-related. These barges however seem to be heading away from Pittsburgh.
