 A bridge on the Pennsylvania Turnpike is being replaced here. When the Vogels passed through in the other direction on the 25th of May, there was a huge pile of rubble blocking the road. Rather than take the six-mile detour recommended for motorists, they carried their bikes and luggage over it. Now, as then, there doesn't seem to be anybody at work but the road is now pretty clear and since I'm wearing a hard hat anyway, there doesn't seem much harm in sneaking through.
