 I visited this area once about 11 years ago but can't remember if I went to Gettysburg or not. I recently read the on-line journal of a family called the Vogels who spent about a year travelling round the USA and the north of Mexico on bikes, ending in New York. They passed through Gettysburg about six weeks ago, on Memorial Day, and said that that was a bad time to go because of the crowds and traffic. I think perhaps Independence Day wouldn't be the best time for me to visit then. This week is also the anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg, which took place fourscore and seven years after independence, in 1863.
